About
Our Organization
Mission
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the fundamental principles of the International Red Cross movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
History
How did it all begin?
The American Red Cross is the largest volunteer organization in America. Since the founding of the Red Cross by Clara Barton in 1881, volunteers have been trained to help families, friends, and neighbors in the event of an emergency.
The Tippecanoe County Chapter was founded in 1915. Since then, our purpose has not changed. We continue to provide the community with services that aid in disaster relief, health and safety, and military communication. Besides being committed to Lafayette and its' surrounding communities, we also deal with issues on a national level. The Tippecanoe County Chapter of the American Red Cross is a link to the American Red Cross as well as the International Red Cross movement.
Has the Red Cross changed?
Throughout a period of one hundred years, the Red Cross has grown to be the largest network of helping hands in America. The American Red Cross has over 1.2 million volunteers nationwide. The Tippecanoe County Chapter has over 250 volunteers from the community. Friends helping neighbors, that is our commitment.
March is American Red Cross Month
Since 1943, March has been designated as Red Cross Month, a time to recognize the valuable contributions of our supporters whose generosity makes the work of the American Red Cross possible.
The Red Cross fulfills a unique and vital role not only for those in need, but for all who engage with us on some level. We all work very hard to be there with help and hope when people need it most – and we need the public’s support to continue our work. Working together, combining national and local efforts, we can make this March campaign truly successful.
We’re calling on everyone in our community to be a HERO and engage with the Red Cross – whether it is by donating blood; signing up for a CPR, first aid or another Red Cross course; giving a financial gift that can really save the day when the next disaster strikes; or getting involved as a volunteer.
