Lifeguard Training
LIFEGUARD SEASON IS OVER. CLASSES WILL BEGIN AGAIN IN THE WINTER 2011
The Lifeguarding program is designed to teach aquatic related prevention, preparedness and response knowledge and skills to individuals who will be or are employed as professionals who have a duty to respond to emergencies. Participants must have strong swimming skills and there are requirements that need to be met in order to take the courses:
- You need to be at least 15 years old.
- You need to complete a 300 yard swim with 100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breaststroke and 100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke.
- The breaststroke sequence must now be demonstrated using a “pull, breathe, kick and glide” sequence.
- You will need to swim 20 yards, surface dive to retrieve a 10 lb. object from 9 feet of water and swim back 20 yards carrying the object. This will be a timed event.
Lifeguarding and First Aid certification is valid for 3 years, CPR/AED/PR certification is valid for one.
