Lifeguard Training

The Lifeguarding program is designed to teach aquatic related prevention, preparedness and response knowledge and skills to individuals who will be or are employed as professionals who have a duty to respond to emergencies. Participants must have strong swimming skills and there are requirements that need to be met in order to take the courses:

  • You need to be at least 15 years old.
  • You need to complete a 300 yard swim with 100 yards of front crawl, 100 yards of breaststroke and 100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke.
  • The breaststroke sequence must now be demonstrated using a “pull, breathe, kick and glide” sequence.
  • You will need to swim 20 yards, surface dive to retrieve a 10 lb. object from 9 feet of water and swim back 20 yards carrying the object. This will be a timed event.

Lifeguarding and First Aid certification is valid for 3 years, CPR/AED/PR certification is valid for one.
