Local Disaster Response
Carroll County Fires
We responded on November 25th at 11:30am till almost 8pm that evening, providing assistance to 5 families and over 75 emergency workers. Family casework continued the following evening “Thanksgiving” and we are still working with families on their long term recovery. 4 Tippecanoe Co. volunteers and two Carroll Co. DAT members responded. We also have many spontaneous volunteers assist.
We also had a fire on December 3rd called out at 11:30pm finished up around 3:00am again in Carroll Co. Client’s home was completely destroyed. Provided rehab and assistance with food, clothing and shelter for one client. Still helping with referrals on long term recovery.
Aberdeen Fire
Seven members of DAT [Disaster Action Team] were called out on November 2, 2009, around 12:30am to a house fire on Aberdeen Way. Assistance for sheltering was given to a family of three. Rehab was provided to 20-25 emergency fire workers.
Voyager St. Fire
Five DAT team members responded to a fire on Voyager St (out by West Point) on October 31, 2009. Rehab was provided to approximately 15 emergency workers on the scene. Family assistance was not needed.
Monticello Fire
On October 27, 2009, the chapter ERV [Emergency Response Vehicle] team was called upon by the White/Cass Co. American Red Cross to do mutual aid feeding of the 80+ emergency workers on the fire scene in Monticello. The ERV team served breakfast and lunch along with beverages to those working the scene. The White/Cass Co ARC was busy opening up shelters for the many homes that were evacuated.
