First Annual Community HERO Award given to LPD Officer Nicholas Amor

[Lafayette, IN; March 28, 2009] – The 350 Area Association of Businesses along with the Tippecanoe County Chapter of the American Red Cross awarded the First Annual Greater Lafayette Community Hero Award to Officer Nicholas Amor of the Lafayette Police Department. The celebration took place today at the Old National Bank financial center on 350 South at 11:00 AM.

The focus of the event was not only to bring recognition to Community Heroes in the Greater Lafayette Area, but to also raise funds for the Tippecanoe County Chapter of the American Red Cross. Since each nominee was worthy of winning this award, the winner was chosen based on how much money was raised for the Red Cross on their behalf.

In attendance and speaking at the event were City Councilman for District 1, Rick Cornstuble; Bob Wollenburg and Liz Wallace on behalf of the Red Cross; the Red Cross co-chairs for the Heroes campaign, Joe and Connie Bumbleburg; Lt. Gary Sparger and Officer Stason Wiete from West Lafayette Police Department; Alan “Skippy” Borck and Jenny Austin from Tippecanoe Emergency Ambulance Service; Deputy Chief David Payne and Officer Nicholas Amor from Lafayette Police Department; Chief John Cox and Officer John Dorroll from Purdue Police Department; Angela Tamer from Old National Bank on behalf of the 350 Area Association of Businesses.

  • Officer John Dorroll, Purdue Police Dept- donations accepted at Eye Care Experience and the Purdue Police Dept.
  • Officer Stason Wiete, West Lafayette Police Dept- donations accepted at 3.5.0. Hairspa and the West Lafayette Police Dept.
  • Officer Nicholas Amor, Lafayette Police Dept- donations accepted at Foxfire Apartments and the Lafayette Police Dept.
  • Jenny Austin, EMS of Tippecanoe Emergency Ambulance Service- donations accepted at Realty Executives of Lafayette only.

The total raised from this 1st annual event was $2,066.29.
