Pet First Aid
Pet First Aid Presentation courses are now being offered at the Tippecanoe County Chapter of the American Red Cross
The presentations are for pet owners, groomers, rescue organizations, sitters, store owners and employees. They teach participants how to be prepared for emergencies that involve a dog and a cat, and how to protect themselves and the dog or cat from further harm, injury or suffering during emergencies by teaching prompt, effective first aid actions and care. The presentation incorporates training in first aid skills and providing guidance for emergency situations involving dogs and cats until veterinary care is available.
By the end of training participants will be able to do the following, as well as many others:
- How to safely approach an ill or injured cat or dog
- How to safely capture and restrain a cat
- How to safely muzzle a dog
- How to check a dog/cat that appears to be having a first aid emergency
- How to check a unconscious dog/cat for breathing and cardiac emergencies
- How to perform rescue breathing and CPR
- How to care for shock
- How to provide basic wound care

$40.00, which includes both a Dog/Cat Reference Guide with a DVD included.
