CPR Instructor Training

Lay Responder CPR/AED and First Aid Instructor Training

Learn to train students from the 2005 Emergency Cardiac Care guidelines in Adult, Infant and Child CPR, as well as the use of an Automated External Defibrillator and First Aid, You will review course materials and will learn presentation techniques, evaluation methods and procedures for preparing Red Cross Reports. Basic level knowledge and skills of CPR and First Aid will be tested during the pre-test. It is strongly recommended that you review basic level knowledge and skills before taking this test.

PREREQUISITES: Individuals must be at least 17 years old. You must have a Fundamentals of Instructor Training certificate issued within the past 12 months or have previous Red Cross Instructor Certification. You will need to demonstrate proficiency in First Aid and CPR skills during the pre-test. (AED skills will be reviewed during the pre-test.)

Fundamentals of Instructor Training

This self-study course introduces Instructor Candidates to the history, structure and activities of the American Red Cross. It will prepare you to teach American Red Cross specialty courses to diverse populations. It will also introduce the policies and procedures of the American Red Cross to ensure course consistency, quality and appropriate record reporting.
This course is a requirement that must be completed before receiving Instructor Certification.

Validity: 1 year
Time/Date: This is a self-directed study. Instructor candidates will receive their manuals at the first session of the Instructor Course and must read and do activity pages. Self study must be completed on the last day of the instructor course training.

You must attend all sessions and pass all written and skills tests to receive your Instructor Certification

Once you have completed training, you can decide if you would like to teach training classes at the chapter or at work. If you choose to teach for the chapter, there are regularly scheduled classes each month that you may choose from to teach. If training at work, you will then be considered a third party, which the American Red Cross recognizes as an Authorized Provider. An Authorized Provider agreement must be signed by your employer and a price per person fee will apply, as well as rental fees if you chose to rent equipment from the chapter.

Class Fees are NON-REFUNDABLE unless the class is canceled.
