Disaster Action Team (DAT) Member
Department: Emergency Services
Purpose: To provide assistance to those affected by local disasters.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to clients immediate, unmet, disaster caused needs.
- Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
- Comply with all American Red Cross Disaster Response policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Interest in people and the ability to work well with volunteers and paid staff.
- Knowledge of the Mission, Fundamental Principles, history and services of the American Red Cross.
- Thorough knowledge of disaster safety, preparedness and response.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to provide quality customer service.
- Professional appearance and manner.
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English a plus.
Training:
- Orientation to the American Red Cross. (video or online modules)
- Introduction to Disaster Services (online)
- Mass Care, An Overview
- Shelter Operations & Shelter Simulation
- On the job training as necessary.
- ***Other training opportunities available for specialty tracks.
Commitment:
- Volunteers are notified of disaster responses from 5pm-9am weekdays and 24 hours per day on weekends. Week day office hour responses are also available. Volunteers need to attend at least 6 of the 12 monthly DAT meetings and respond to 4 responses per year.
