Disaster Action Team (DAT) Member

Department: Emergency Services

Purpose: To provide assistance to those affected by local disasters.

Responsibilities:

  • Respond to clients immediate, unmet, disaster caused needs.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Comply with all American Red Cross Disaster Response policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in people and the ability to work well with volunteers and paid staff.
  • Knowledge of the Mission, Fundamental Principles, history and services of the American Red Cross.
  • Thorough knowledge of disaster safety, preparedness and response.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Professional appearance and manner.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English a plus.

Training:

  • Orientation to the American Red Cross. (video or online modules)
  • Introduction to Disaster Services (online)
  • Mass Care, An Overview
  • Shelter Operations & Shelter Simulation
  • On the job training as necessary.
  • ***Other training opportunities available for specialty tracks.

Commitment:

  • Volunteers are notified of disaster responses from 5pm-9am weekdays and 24 hours per day on weekends. Week day office hour responses are also available. Volunteers need to attend at least 6 of the 12 monthly DAT meetings and respond to 4 responses per year.
