Disaster Services Trainer

Department: Emergency Services Department

Purpose: To teach classes to the community in accordance with American Red Cross course regulations and use of American Red Cross educational aids (i.e. videos, booklets).

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and manage the course in a classroom setting.
  • Ensure that students understand American Red Cross Disaster Services protocols and procedures.
  • Document participants on course records and administer certifications.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in people and the ability to work well with volunteers and paid staff.
  • Knowledge of the Mission, Fundamental Principles, history and services of the American Red Cross.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service and to demonstrate course components.
  • Overall mobility and ability to stoop, crouch, life (50 lbs) and push.
  • Acquaintance with teaching techniques and tools provided by the Red Cross.
  • Professional appearance and manner.
  • Bi-lingual Spanish/English a plus.

Training:

  • Orientation to the American Red Cross. (video or online modules)
  • Fundamentals of Instructor Training
  • Disaster Instructor Specialty Training

Commitment:

  • The chapter would like to conduct at least 3 trainings per month. Instructors can participate by teaching all or one of the monthly courses.
